Youth Helping Youth

What the Boy Scouts are all about! Helping in times of calm and helping in times of crisis!

TIMES OF CALM

The scouts of Troop 41 show support for their community through assisting other youths at the Festival of North Country Folklife held at Barnhardt Island. Two scouts, Kevin Beaudoin and Patrick Singleton, demonstrated to local youth, Amber Clark, the way to construct a scarecrow.

The Scouts and Leaders of Boy Scout troop 41 of Massena are regular, behind the scene players in many community events. Throughout this year, Troop 41 has made a significant impact in Massena. An example of this are their contributions in a Chamber of commerce event assisting the entire Community and also showing a caring hand to individuals by visiting residents in a Local Nursing home. Recently the Scouts Participated in a community educational effort at Barnhardt Island.

TIMES OF CRISIS

Disaster rattled the young hearts of Massena Boy Scout Troop 41. So much so, they decided to donate two thirds of their consignment sales from the following weekend. But they didn’t stop there. The Troop put out the word that on top of collecting for the Hiawatha Seaway Council’s Red Cross Supplies request, they would also act as a temporary central point at the St Lawrence Center Mall where people could make a donation either in general or to whatever Disaster Relief Charity a person wanted to.

Working shifts, for three days, Troop 41 Scouts Raised more than $3100. During the October 4th Massena Scouts Court of Honor, the money was donated to the Hiawatha Seaway Council for continuing Disaster Relief, to Massena St.Vincent DePaul, and to the local Massena Fire Department For their Widows and Children’s Fund.

Any time a scout troop can show courtesy, helpfulness, and patriotism is a success. Success is often not accomplished alone. So the Troop would like to thank the following: Hiawatha Seaway Council ,Via Main, New York Power Authority and Employees, Massena Building Supply, St Lawrence Centre Mall, BSA Troop 333, Alcoa, Massena Independent Living Center, Kinney Drugs(North Main Street), Footlocker, Massena Paper, Kay Bee Toys, Sears, St. Vincent De Paul, Smith's True Value Hardware, Paquettes Jewelry, Seaway Eye Care, Sea Comm, Massena Fire Department, and St Vincent De Paul
